Tasting notes

Vegetative growth in the Pomino vineyards followed a winter with average rainfall but relatively mild temperatures (it is no coincidence that no snowfall was recorded in 2024). In fact, the buds burst open very uniformly across the entire estate, and from the very beginning, the shoots showed remarkable vigor. Flowering in early June and veraison in late July were marked by dry days with intense sunlight; after all, the summer of 2024 was one of the hottest on record throughout Tuscany. The excellent water reserves in Pomino’s cool soils allowed the vines to continue growing until harvest, a crucial factor for cluster development.

Wine Variety: Pinot nero

Maturation: 12 months in French oak barriques

Alcohol content: 13%

Vinification and ageing: Once harvested, the Pinot Noir grapes were fermented in 60-hl truncated-cone-shaped oak vats at a controlled temperature; particularly during the early stages, manual punching down was performed to facilitate the proper extraction of anthocyanins and polyphenols from the skins. The total maceration period lasted two weeks. Alcoholic fermentation was followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak barriques. The Pinot Noir continued to age in barriques for another 12 months. The subsequent period of aging in the bottle, before it was ready for tasting, completed its development.

Organoleptic Notes: Pomino Pinot Noir 2024 boasts a splendid, brilliant ruby-red color. The bouquet is initially fruity, with notes reminiscent of well-ripened red and black berries as well as candied orange peel. The spicy notes are particularly intriguing, evoking cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, blending with delicate tertiary aromas such as leather and roasted notes. On the palate, it is fresh, with balsamic undertones; the tannins are silky and vibrant. The finish is long and persistent.
