Rialzi

The winter of 2021 saw weather that was not too severe, but there was some frost and rainfall. The spring thaw and rising temperature allowed the Sangiovese vines to bud in mid-April. The mild spring temperatures helped the foliage develop well, forming a complete and extensive wall of leaves. The vines flowered in early June, when the sunshine and mild temperatures ensured a good fruit set. Veraison took place a few days earlier in early August thanks to the optimal heat conditions during the day, mitigated by good ventilation at night. Much of the credit for the extraordinary year must be given to the particularly hot summer, which also saw two light rainfalls at the end of August. The harvest that began in mid-September was blessed with the sunny days and normal temperatures that characterised the 2021 vintage, giving it an extraordinary intensity of aromas and richness of tannins that the two summer rains made soft and velvety.

Vinification and ageing: The Rialzi vineyard is situated at a height of 500 metres asl and higher, laid out over three terraces with Alberese soils and a south-west exposure. After careful work in the vineyard, the Sangiovese grapes were carefully harvested by hand. Once they arrived in the cellar, they underwent a further thorough selection process. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, with skin maceration and gentle pumping over, in order to ensure the best polyphenolic extraction. Subsequently, the wine was matured for 36 months, of which 24 were spent in barriques. Only after further ageing in the bottle was the Rialzi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione ready to be released on the market.

Organoleptic Notes: Rialzi 2021 is a beautiful bright ruby red with garnet highlights around the edges. The bouquet is extremely complex and intense. The fruity notes are reminiscent of sour cherries in alcohol and red berries, combined with beautiful floral notes. The tertiary and spicy aromas are beautifully integrated, with hints of tobacco, roasted notes, cloves and star anise. The tannins are soft and round on the palate. Balanced, warm and dry. Very long-lasting finish.
Available formats: Bordeaux (0.75 L), Magnum ( 1.5 L)
